THE wine from South Tyrol ... "The rarest of our wines, made from selected small, dried Lagrein grapes."

The rarity! An unusual wine because it is made from dried Lagrein grapes. Almost black in the glass, wonderful bouquet of ripe blueberries and black currants. Dense and concentrated in taste. Only 550 bottles were produced from the first vintage in 1997. In view of this small amount, the "Gambero Rosso" refused the 3 glasses for the Lamarein in order not to be stoned by disappointed readers who tried in vain to find this wine. About 7000 bottles of this ingenious drink are now being produced.

The Lamarein 2020 from the Unterganzner winery is a true rarity, because as soon as it goes on sale, it is sold out. Many wine lovers are already waiting very hard and trying to get one. It consists of 100% short-stemmed Lagrein, harvested in October. The special thing about this wine is that the grapes then dry under a roof until Christmas. This method is otherwise only known from Amarone and gives the wine its incomparable taste. Following fermentation in concrete barrels, it matures in wooden barrels for at least 17 months.

Arguably one of the most sought-after wines in Italy, Lamarein is said by many to be a privilege to drink.

Expansion: The Lamarein is an exceptional wine in which the Lagrein grapes are harvested late and then partially dried (stored in small crates under the roof until the end of the year). The procedure is not new and is called Appassimento. However, this is relatively new with Lagrein grapes. At Unterganzner, the wine is then aged for a good 1.5 years in new oak barrels and tonneaux. Powerful, dense, deep and concentrated with a huge spectrum of aromas.
