A fantastic wine that already appeals to wine connoisseurs with its quaint name: Strehn - The elephant in the china shop.
Pia Strehn came up with the idea around 2010 when she had to give a lecture on the wines of Provence. At that time she tested all kinds of different and great rosé wines - she was particularly taken with the strong, creamy southern French rosé wines that were aged in barriques. Therefore, she came to the conclusion that such a wine must also find its way into Germany. For some time now, the rosé Der Elefant has been available in German wine shops.
The elephant in the porcelain shop from the Strehn winery is a fine, strong, fibrous rosé wine made from the 100% Blaufränkisch grape variety (central Burgenland). The elephant in the china shop does not contain any sulfur at all and is unfiltered.
In 2018, the wine even received 93 Falstaff points, a testament to its quality.
Gerhard Hofer, shop window, the press:
"Pia Strehn had the idea ten years ago. At that time she had to give a lecture on the wines of Provence. So she diligently tasted her way through the great rosés and came across strong, creamy southern French wines aged in barriques. Pia couldn't resist. One of those It also had to go to Deutschkreutz, and it has been in the bottle for a short time: a fine, strong, fibrous rosé, 100 percent Blaufränkisch, Mittelburgenland, after all. The young winemaker recommends beef tartare with her pink elephant. The labels are organized animal-wise at the Strehns. And rosé is deadly elephantine. "Elephant in a china shop" is written on the label. "Because it's a very unconventional wine," says Pia. The wine does well in a large Burgundy glass. For Pia Strehn, the rosé had citrus, peach and "blood orange". And since then I have not known what is weirder for me: A pink wine elephant or a winemaker who smells blood oranges from her rosé. "
