The Littoral Gin

Organic Dry Gin with maritime botanicals ... experience the sea.

Two brave marine biologists set sail and embarked on a daring expedition. After a long search, they found what they were looking for in the littoral shallows of the Baltic Sea. Your prey: the finest maritime botanicals from long forgotten times. In traditional production, sea wormwood, algae and salt marsh herbs are now combined with apple, juniper and black currant. The result is an incomparably fruity maritime gin with a touch of sea air

This New Western Dry Gin is a fruity, but at the same time maritime gin with a touch of sea air. Strictly speaking, the Littoral consists of three individual distillates with different botanicals, each of which is marinated (macerated) in organic wheat brandy of agricultural origin for different periods of time and then distilled individually. The distillery, based on Scottish pot stills, was developed with biochemical knowledge according to the ideas of founder Dr. Jan Czerny perfected. After the distillation process, the three components are mixed together and slowly reduced before the distillate is allowed to rest for the first time at 70% alcohol by volume. After reducing to drinking strength, the gin rests again in the steel tank.

When developing the recipe for their gin, it was always clear to the Czernys that local botanicals of organic quality should preferably be used, especially those that have a connection to the Baltic Sea. In the littoral plain, the transition zone between water and waterfront (land), special plants grow that harmonize perfectly with the aromas of the obligatory juniper in the gin.

But the Littoral Gin only gets its special note from the last component: the maritime herbal distillate. Beach vermouth is one of the lesser-known botanicals in the gin world. It only grows in locations with seawater influence, but you cannot buy the herb. For this reason, the Czernys have had themselves certified as herbal collectors. Furthermore, with the sea lettuce and the laminaria, a type of green and brown algae are macerated, which are grown in organic quality at oceanBASIS by friends of the Czernys in Kiel. Chamomile, meadowsweet and fennel seeds are also used.

All ingredients are organic certified.

nosing
An extraordinarily well-rounded combination of the sweet fruity note of blackcurrants paired with a light aniseed note from the beach wormwood. The alcohol is hardly noticeable when nosing this gin despite its 43% alcohol by volume.

tasting
A mild and soft gin with a delicate maritime note, in which the blackcurrant plays a central role. The addition of tonic makes the algae taste much more present. The coriander is noticeable through a slight, pleasantly rustic spiciness.
